WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 22–Sagacious HF, the Pan American Games team gold and individual silver medalist that Lauren Sammis has been preparing to qualify for the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, has a deep muscle strain in his back.
Lauren told dressage-news.com that the strain occurred in January.
“It has improved significantly but has not healed completely,” said Lauren of the 11-year-old KWPN gelding that is owned by Al Guden’s Hyperion Farm.
“Sagacious is an unbelievable horse with a bright future and it would be unfair, physically and mentally, not to give him enough time to make a full recovery. We have fulfilled the qualification criteria for the selection show for WEG in August.
“The goal for 2010 remains the same–WEG. With that in mind and with the support of Sagacious’s owner Al Guden we want to act conservatively on his behalf.
“There is no doubt that Sagacious will heal from this minor setback. It will just take some more time.”
The pair who are in Wellington for the winter but are based in South Orange, New Jersey, have compiled scores to qualify for the National Grand Prix Championships that will also be the WEG selection trials in Gladstone, New Jersey, in August.
