ENCINITAS, California, Mar. 18–The 1987 KWPN stallion Facet was humanely euthanized Thursday for colic-related reasons.

Facet (Vanitas x Tolbert x Courville xx) was competed by former Olympian Ellen Bontje in 1996-2000 in small tour and Grand Prix.

German Young Rider Gerda Lehmann then enjoyed success with Facet prior to his sale to Gay Walker in February, 2003.

He was imported to the U.S. and competed by Jennifer Hoffmann at Intermediare-1, winning Reserve Champion in the Region 7 USDF/GAIG Championships.

In 2004, Facet was competed by 14-year-old Susan Walker at the FEI Junior level. The pair were members of the gold medal team at the USEF Junior Dressage Team Championships and placed third individually. He retired from competition,  after that, but enjoyed life at stud and insisted on being ridden. He was “an honest and generous schoolmaster until the end.”
