AACHEN, Germany, Mar. 9–Riders under the age of 25 from six nations will compete in a special team event for the first time at this year’s CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival, regarded as the world’s top horse show.
The Prize of Liselott and Klaus Rheinberger Foundation for 12 young riders from six nations will be held in the main dressage venue, the Deutsche Bank Stadium, during the the CHIO July 8-19.
“Just great, Aachen CHIO is a pioneer in the promotion of youth,” said Jürgen Koschel, coach of the German under-25 squad.
The team competition will be held on Wednesday, July 14 with the individual competition on Saturday, July 17.
“The step from the junior and young riders to the seniors is very difficult,” Show Director Frank Kemperman said. “We want to introduce this new test for the next generation of the top sport.
“For young people it is great to spend one week at Aachen in the same stables as the successful international stars.”
This year’s CHIO may be even more intensely competitive than usual as several nations are expected to use the show as preparation for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in September.
