Totilas Wins–Again! Laura Bechtolsheimer Beats Anky & Isabell

AMSTERDAM, Jan. 22–Moorlands Totilas ridden by Edward Gal won the Jumping Amsterdam Grand Prix at the World Cup qualifying event Friday, but the Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer on her Olympic mount Mistral Hojris came second ahead of Anky van Grunsven and Isabell Werth.

The scores for Totilas were well below their record-setting 90-plus per cent, with all five judges within a range of a low of 81.276 per cent and a high of 83.404 per cent.

Laura Bechtolsheimer was the unanimous choice for second on 78.042 per cent.

Anky van Grunsven on IPS Painted Black was third on 76.170 per cent while Isabell Werth on Warum Nicht FRH was fourth on 74.340 per cent. The Dutch and German women–both mothers–are taking their top horses, Salinero and Satchmo to the Exquis World Dressage Masters in Palm Beach Feb. 4-6.

The Grand Prix Freestyle whose results will count toward qualifying for the World Cup Final to be held in The Netherlands late March is scheduled for Saturday. This event is the sevent of nine qualifiers for the West European League.
