HICKSTEAD, England, July 25–
Lara Griffith,in her second year competing at Young Rider, is the 2009 British Young Rider champion.
Griffith, 20, of Milton under Wychwood in Oxfordshire, won the title on Dawning Hopes.
She had previously been on the Great Britain Junior European Team with
two other different horses.
“Young Riders has been brilliant for me as it allows you to have international exposure at a young age and get the
experience for the future so the pressure and the different atmosphere at
international shows does not come as such a shock!” she said.
Lara has just completed he second year at Oxford Brookes University where she studies equine science.
“I plan to continue my riding and eventually go to the Olympics and represent my country at senior level at grand prix,” she said. “I will also hopefully have a career as an equine physiotherapist in order to support my riding.”
Dawning Hopes is a 12-year-old mare by Blue Hors Silvermoon and a half sister to Blue Hors Matine, the horse that Denmark’s Andreas Helgstrand competed at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
Lara said she has been riding Dawning Hopes, whose stable name is “Loppy,” since November last year, She is owned by Hilary Sawyer and Leonie Porter.
Lara is a member of the World Class Development Program which has the aim of helping riders make it to the 2012 Olympics in London and beyond..
