LEXINGTON, Kentucky, June 14-USA’s team for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010 will be selected at the USEF Grand Prix National Championships at the USET Foundation headquarters over two weeks, Aug. 13-15 and Aug. 20-22 next year.
The timing of the selection trials in Gladstone, New Jersey, one month before the start of WEG dressage competition on Sept. 27, 2010, has widespread support. Riders and officials involved in setting the dates said that horses reaching peak performance for the trials should be able to maintain that level for the month to WEG competition.
The location and timing was determined after reviewing procedures used for previous championships.
Meantime, draft qualifying procedures were released by the USEF.
The draft–a final version is expected to be declared next month after a review of comments–calls for the qualifying period to begin on July 1, 2009 and finish on July 15, 2010. Scores obtained at only CDIs and CDI-Ws within and without the U.S. will count.
Under the draft schedule, horse and rider combinations will require a minimum of two qualifying Grand Prix scores, one ridden in conjunction with the Grand Prix Special and the other with the Grand Prix Freestyle. Riders earning more than two qualifying scores will be able to drop the lowest score.
The 15 highest ranked riders–riders can qualify with more than one horse–will be invited to the 2010 USEF National Grand Prix Championship and Selection Trials.
