SYDNEY, Australia, May 20–Australian Event and Dressage competitor Heath Ryan is expected to make a full recovery from a minor stroke suffered at the inaugural Eventing Equestriad CIC3* in Sydney on Sunday.
A statement from Equestrian Australia said that an MRI scan confirmed Ryan suffered a minor stroke.
Heath, who represented Australia at the 2008 Olympic Games and the Rolex FEI World Cup Dressage Final in Las Vegas in April was at the competition in Camden, a Sydney suburb, when he became unwell. He was taken to Campbelltown hospital.
Heath’s wife, Rozzie, said, “his doctors have said that he should be able to make a 100 per cent recovery quite quickly provided he doesn’t overdo it.”
At present his speech is perfectly normal but he is still suffering some dizziness.
Ryan is being transferred to John Hunter Hospital closer to the couple’s home in Newcastle, about 100 miles north of Sydney.
“We have been totally overwhelmed by so many kind people,” Rozzie said. “Everyone has been wonderful, it is beyond words.”
