SYDNEY, Australia, May. 18–Australian event and dressage rider Heath Ryan was hospitalized Sunday after suffering a stroke at the inaugural Eventing Equestriad CIC3*.
The event’s official web site said that Ryan, who competed aboard Regardez Moi in last month’s Rolex FEI World Cup in Las Vegas, said that Ryan was taken to a suburban Sydney hospital after “suddenly becoming very unwell.”
His wife, Rozzie, whose horse, Donna Carrera, that was a contender for last year’s Australian Olympic dressage team but has since been sold to Sweden, was reported as saying that Ryan is feeling better but is “bossing her around which is a good sign.”
Ryan has represented Australia in both eventing and dressage. His brother, Matt, is an Olympic gold medal winner for Australia in eventing.
Ryan and Regardez Moi worked with Steffen Peters at his San Diego, Calif. facility before the World Cup.
