WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 4, 2016–Riders from 10 nations with Olympic dreams or looking to take a piece of one of the biggest dressage purses in the world are lined up for the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI5* while nine combinations will make their international Big Tour debuts in a companion CDI3* next week.
Ten nations are represented by the 33 riders and horses in the $250,000 CDI5* presented by Diamante Farms at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center’s Stadium. Included are America’s top two combinations of Laura Graves on Verdades and Steffen Peters on Legolas.
The leading Canadian pair of Belinda Trussell on Anton, Florida-based Danes Mikala Gundersen on My Lady and Lars Petersen on Mariett, Great Britain’s Lara Griffith on Rubin Al Asad back for a second winter in Florida and an Olympic team contender are also in the lineup.
Of the 41 entries from 14 nations in the CDI3*, nine will make their international Grand Prix debuts.
In addition to Steffen Peters on Rosamunde, Half Moon Delphi to be ridden by America’s Sarah Daehnert is best known as a British team medal mount for Michael Eilberg at the 2014 World Games and the 2013 European Championships.
Chris von Martels of Canada on Divertimento trained and competed at Big Tour by Sweden’s six-time Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén will make their first CDI appearance, as will Great Britain’s Olympic team gold and individual bronze medal rider Laura Tomlinson on Rosalie B that had previously been competed at Small Tour by Anabel Balkenhol, the German Olympic rider and daughter of Klaus Balkenhol, Olympic gold medalist and former coach of the United States.
So, too, will Lars Petersen of Denmark on Elfenfeuer and Mikala Gundersen on HF Victor, Canada’s Danielle Gallagher-Legriffon on Steeped in Luck, Venezuelan amateur rider Alejandro Gomez on Flavio and Christian Zimmermann, the German who rides for Palestine, an Aramis as well as his likely Olympic mount Cinco De Mayo in the CDI5*.
Gwen Poulin, who has not competed at a CDI since 2010, will ride William in the CDI3*, the horse on which she won the U.S. Dressage Final Grand Prix Championship last November. Gwen is the daughter of U.S. Olympic team bronze medalist Michael Poulin and sister of 2007 Pan American Games team gold medal rider Katherine Poulin.
