WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 31, 2014–Lars Petersen and Mikala Gundersen, both from Denmark and based in Florida, were the top money winners each with more than $40,000 at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival that ended its 12-week winter circuit Sunday, while Tina Konyot was the No. 1 American.
Lars earned $47,920 (€34,780) for the top spot while Mikala ended with $42,080 (€30,540) over the season at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center’s Stadium complex where dressage is staged, according to a compilation of prize money distribution by dressage-news.com.
Tina Konyot of Palm City, Florida was the highest earning American with $39,665 (€28,790) in the third spot overall while Adrienne Lyle of Ketchum, Idaho was fourth on the money leaderboard with earnings of $28,381 (€20,600) and Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida in the fifth spot with $24,888 (€18,067).
Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén, the world’s fifth ranked rider with Don Auriello, was in the sixth spot with earnings of $22,400 (€16,260) from a handful of compettions as she went home early to ride Benetton Dream in a stallion show.
A total of 57 riders from 11 nations shared in the total purse of about $600,000 for the seven CDIs staged by Equestrian Sport Productions from January through the end of March, including CDI5* and CDI4* events. The figures did not include earnings by riders in small tour and the Under-25, junior and young rider divisions.
The overwhelming amount of the prize money earned by each of the top five riders was with their top horses–Lars with Mariett, Mikala with My Lady, Tina and Calecto V, Adrienne and Wizard and Shelly and Doktor.
Not surprisingly, the greatest number of winners, 27, came from the United States, with 16 from Canada, the four riders on the Spanish Nations Cup team made up the third largest group while Germany had two riders in the money, the same number as Denmark with Lars and Mikala.
Countries with individual money winners were Argentina, Australia, Georgia, Italy, Mexico and Sweden.
