LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Oct. 12–Kimberly Herslow, competing in the first championship of her life, on Saturday rode her Rosmarin to the United States Intermediate 1 Championship presented by the Dutta Corp.
Kimbery, 42, of Stockton, New Jersey won the Prix St. Georges and Intermediate 1 that accounted for 85 per cent of the total toard the championshp and her second place in Saturday’s Freestyle was enough to give a total of 75.701 to clinch the title at the Festival of Champions that determines national titles from ponies through to Grand Prix.
The victory capped a banner year for Kimberly and the eight-year-old dark bay Hanoverian gelding (Rosentanz x Weltmeyer).
She began competing in CDIs for the first time, including winning the team gold medal at the Global Dressage Festival Nations Cup in Wellington and a succession of other victories on the intensely competitive Florida winter circuit and in the northeast.
Caroline Roffman of Wellington, Florida on Her Highness O that she competed in the small tour at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany in June won the Freestyle to take the reserve championship with a total of 73.504 while Emily Wagner of La Cygne, Kansas on her homebred Wakeup was third on 69.612.
Kimberly said she is amazed that Rosmarin came back so strongly after a whole summer off.
“He’ll be moving up to Grand Prix as soon as he’s ready. There’s no pressure for him to get there. The work all comes fairly easy for him.”
As a stepping stone to Grand Prix, she has started riding Donnermeyer, a successful 15-year-old small tour horse confirmed at Grand Prix that Peter Ofenstein sent from Germany after seeing her compete in Florida last winter.
