HAGEN, Germany, Mar. 3–Totilas, the superstar stallion, will make his first competition appearance with new rider Matthias Alexander Rath of Germany at the Horses & Dreams meets Germany CDI3* May 4-8.
The 11-year-old KWPN black stallion was bought by Paul Schockemöhle of Performance Sales International. His partner is Ullrich Kasselmann who also hosts the Horses & Dreams show.
Rumors have circulated since Totilas was sold by Moorlands Stable of The Netherlands last October as to the venue for the first competition under the new ownership and new rider.
“I am so looking forward to the first joint tournament with Totilas in front of spectators,” said Matthias, 26, who commutes between his home in Kronberg near Frankfurt to Mühlen for training.
A “dress rehearsal” was held recently at the Schockemöhle Station stallion show in Vechta.
Horses & Dreams in Hagen is the first of several international tournaments that dressage coaches have recommended as preparation for the European Championships to be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in August.
Ullrich Kasselmann said of the planned first start for Totilas and Matthias at Hagen: “We are very proud and are delighted that Totilas and Matthias Alexander Rath will be making their tournament début with us at Horses & Dreams.
“We welcome equestrian fans from all over the world, and especially Holland, Germany, Scandinavia, Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal,” he said. “But one thing is certain. We’re going to have to seriously consider increasing the spectator capacity in the dressage arena…”
In the four years that Totilas was trained and competed by Edward Gal of The Netherlands, the stallion posted world record scores for all three levels of Grand Prix, won team and individual gold medals at the 2009 European Championships, the World Cup title in 2010, swept the CDIO at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany, in 2010 and won team and both individual gold medals at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010.
Tickets can be booked now for Horses & Dreams meets Germany: Day Ticket permits access to the entire tournament area and includes both dressage and show-jumping arenas but not guaranteed seats for May 7 and 8 for €5 (US$7).
