Twenty-one international dressage events have been set for the United States in 2021, including three at the newly constructed World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida just four hours from the lineup of seven events at Wellington’s Adequan Global Dressage Festival.
The lineup of dressage events was posted Wednesday on the U.S. Equestrian Federation Internet site, with the shows subject to approval by the federation’s board of directors and the International Equestrian Federation.
The winter and spring CDIs of at least 3* level are critical for riders seeking selection for American and other national teams for the Tokyo Olympics delayed for a year to July, 2021.
U.S. Olympic qualifiers start next month and events that are also World Cup qualifiers at Tryon, North Carolina, two in Wellington and two in Thermal, California are scheduled before the end of this year.
In 2021, the first event at Ocala is a CDI3* April 15-18 staged after the Global circuit of seven CDIs from beginning Jan. 13 running to April 4 and one week before a CDI3* at Tryon, North Carolina April 22-25.
With the number of World Cup events limited to a maximum of three by the same organizer, Global’s circuit includes three qualifiers and the addition of a second CDI4* as well as a CDIO3* Nations Cup and a top rated CDI5*.
Devon, Pennsylvania, that was canceled in this coronavirus pandemic year, will return with a World Cup event Sept 28-Oct. 3.
Ocala will host two World Cup events, Oct. 14-17 and Dec. 9-12.
Tryon will host a World Cup qualifier Oct. 28-31.
Missing from the calendar on the East Coast are two long-standing CDIs at Saugerties, New York.
In California, a World Cup is set for Temecula Mar. 11-14, CDI3*s at Burbank Mar. 25-28 and Sacramento-Rancho Murieta April 8-11 and a World Cup in Del Mar Apr. 29-May 2.
World Cup events are listed for Thermal Oct. 21-24 and Temecula Nov. 18-21.
