WIESBADEN, Germany, May 16, 2016–Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD won the World Dressage Masters CDI5* Grand Prix Special Monday, extending their winning streak to five.
Isabell and the 11-year-old black Oldenburg mare scored 79.804 per cent in only the second Grand Prix Special for the pair, the previous occasion being when she started the horse at Grand Prix 18 months ago.
Fellow German team mates Hubertus Schmidt and Imperio were second on 74.510 per cent and Fabienne Lütkemeier and D’Agostino FRH third on 72.902 per cent.
This competition was the first since Isabell said she will campaign Weihegold for a place on Germany’s Olympic team after determining that Don Johnson FRH and Bella Rose would not recover from injuries in time to campaign for a start in Rio de Janeiro.
This was the fourth show for the duo that performed their Big Tour debut 18 months before Isabell turned the mare back to Beatrice Buchwald, her assistant trainer. Beatrice had competed Weihegold through national levels including winning the prestigious Nürnberger Burg-Pokal at Small Tour level for horses aged seven to nine years old in 2013.
Beatrice showed the mare at Grand Prix throughout 2015 but IsabelL took over the reins full time after receiving reports on the recovery of Bella Rose and Don Johnson.
Isabell and Weihegold have won five of the last six starts, including both the Grand Prix and the Special here.
Isabell is only the second rider ever to achieve 80 per cent at Grand Prix on two different horses, on Bella Rose and Weihegold. The only other was Edward Gal on Totilas and Glock’s Undertcover.
