HOOFDORP, Netherlands, June 7–Edward Gal took the top places on Glock’s Undercover and Blue Hors Romanov in the Grand Prix Thursday at the Dutch championships that were without world’s No. 1 Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival in the fist of two selection shows leading up to the Olympics less than two months away.

Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock’s Tango tied for second place with Anky van Grunsven and her Olympic gold medal partner  Salinero in fourth place.

The championships are the the first of two competitions that will determine the Dutch team for the Olympics, the second being the Nations Cup at Rotterdam June 2024.

Edward and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding (Ferro x Mimosavrouwe x Donnerhall) that have competed in only two CDIs so far, scored 75.766 per cent, by far the best result but Thursday’s Grand Prix was a national show before an all-Dutch panel.

Edward and Blur Hors Romanov and Hans Peter and Tango were tied at 74.362 per cent for second place while Anky and the 18-year-old KWPN gelding that she won gold in the freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, gold at the 2007 European Championships and was World Cup champion in 2008 scored 73.830 per cent for fourth place.

Adelinde said that Parzival whom she won her second straight World Cup title in April was not fit enough o compete at these championships. Parzival, now 15 years old, was held over for a second veterinary inspection at the World Cup in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
