MYAKKA CITY, Florida. Oct. 20, 2022–Competitors at the newly created Terra Nova hosting its first dressage competition were enthusiastic at the quality of the show grounds and facilities on the West Coast of Florida that completely escaped the wrath of Hurricane Ian.
Terra Nova is hosting an eventing competition as well as its first dressage show, a World Cup qualifier and a CDI4* in a lineup of international and national classes beginning Friday .
Eline Eckroth, based in Ocala, described the facilities as “impressive.”
“First class stall arrangements in every barn, particularly impressive stall door locking system, comfortable mats, well lit with conveniently located fan and lighting controls. Love the very high ceilings and air flow!
“The VIP pavilion is comfortably arranged with nice furniture and cushions. Still quite a bit of construction going on but this will be a fabulous show grounds.”
Sarah Tubman of Wellington, Florida who competed First Apple in Europe over the summer, said: “The stabling is stunning here… amazing attention to detail with large vaulted ceilings and all the comforts a horse would need from comfort mats to fans and beautiful stall fronts with great air flow and windows.
“The arenas have a great feeling to them and seem very horse-friendly and open. The VIP area is stunning with beautiful wood accents and furnishings. This facility will be a wonderful addition to the Florida circuit upon completion. You can see they have a vision for the future and are not holding back at all with anything they are doing.”
This was the first ever CDI for Laura Killian based in the Wellington area.
“The excitement kicked in as we pulled through the gates up to a grandiose horse fountain on our way to the barns,” she said.
“The stabling gives off a homey feel with elegant wooden fronts, plush comfort stall mats, fans pre-installed and cross tie rings. They really did think of all of the details to make the move-in process simpler for competitors settling into their new home for the weekend.”
TerraNova in southwest Florida near Sarasota on the Gulf of Mexico coast is almost equidistant from the two big show centers–Wellington in the southeast and Ocala in central Florida just north of Orlando.
The 300 acres/120ha of the show grounds has been created on 3,000 acres/1,200ha owned by the family of Hannah Herrig, who with her husband heads up the organization staging the event. An eventing CCI4* was the first international competition, held a year ago when stabling was in tents. A jumping CSI2* followed at the beginning of this year.
