Online voting for nominees of five FEI-International Equestrian Federation–annual awards opened Thursday.

Twenty short-listed candidates from 15 countries have been nominated for the Peden Bloodstock FEI Best Athlete, Longines FEI Rising Star, Cavalor FEI Best Groom, FEI Against All Odds and FEI Solidarity Awards. Public ballots count for 50% of the vote.

Great Britain’s 26-year-old Charlotte Fry, winner of two individual dressage gold medals at the World Championships in Herning, Denmark and rider of Kjento as world seven year-old champion is one of four nominees for best athlete.

Vaulting World Champion and former Rising Star Award winner Lambert Leclezio of France, Para Dressage multi World Champion and Paralympic gold medalist Sanne Voets of the Netherlands, and Swedish jumping rider Henrik von Eckermann, current world No. 1 and reigning World Champion.

Voting is open here for 10 days beginning Oct. 6 to Oct. 16. The awards will be presented in Cape Town, South Africa Nov. 13.

Shortlisted nominees:

Best Athlete – who over the past year has demonstrated exceptional skill and taken the sport to a new level.

·    Charlotte Fry (GBR) – Dressage
·    Lambert Leclezio (FRA) – Vaulting
·    Sanne Voets (NED) – Para Dressage
·    Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) – Jumping

Rising Star – for athlete aged 14 to 21 who demonstrates outstanding sporting talent and commitment.

·    Alice Casburn (GBR) – Eventing
·    James Derwin (IRL) – Jumping
·    Sam Dos Santos (NED) – Vaulting
·    Karla Dyhm-Junge (DEN) – Para Dressage

Best Groom – the behind-the-scenes hero who ensures the horses they look after are given the best possible care.

·    Kerryn Edmans (NZL) – Eventing groom for Tim & Jonelle Price
·    Emma Olsson (SWE) – Driving groom for Boyd Exell
·    Sue Schlegel (USA) – Jumping groom for Elizabeth “Beezie” Madden
·    Lars Seefeld (GER) – Dressage groom for Daniel Bachmann Andersen

FEI Against All Odds – inspiring individual who has pursued their equestrian ambitions and overcome challenges and obstacles along the way.

·    Trevor Harrison (NZL) – Former jockey
·    Estiven Palacio Hernandez (COL) – Vaulting
·    Muthoni Kimani (KEN) – Jumping
·    Mia Rodier-Dawallo (USA) – Para Dressage

FEI Solidarity – for FEI Solidarity or equestrian development project, an individual or organization that has used skill, dedication and energy to expand the sport.

·    Zuzana Baciak Masarykova (SVK)
·    Horse Charity Barbados (BAR)
·    The Big Food Ride (SWZ)
·    The Dressage SA Solidarity Stars Project (RSA)
