The Temecula World Cup event has been canceled leaving Southern California with no CDIs until the fall of 2021.
The event that was set for Mar. 11-14 was canceled, organizer Barbara Biernat told dressage-news.com, after it became clear most top riders planned to go to the Global Dressage Festival in Florida with its seven CDIs over winter.
Burbank CDI3* on the calendar for Mar. 25-28 and the Del Mar National World Cup event for April 29-May 2 were canceled earlier leaving Southern California with no CDIs until the fall. A CDI3* in Sacramento in Northern California is set for April 8-11.
Events at CDI3* or higher level are critical for selection of three riders and horses for the American team plus a fourth combination as a reserve for the Tokyo Olympics in July, delayed from a year ago because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Two places are also allocated to North America at the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden the first week of April, though widespread cancellation of both dressage and jumping qualifiers in Europe have left the championship format in doubt.
