The 2021 Dressage World Young Horse Championships will be switched to Verden, Germany from Ermelo, Netherlands under a decision by the Interntional Equestrian Federation (FEI) Board Friday.

The board said it made the decision after this year’s championships that were to be staged at Verden were postponed from the summer then canceled altogether in December because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2021 championships had initially been allocated to Ermelo.

As a result of the change, Ermelo will host the championships for the three-year cycle of 2022 through 2024.

The board also agreed to reopen bidding for the dressage European U25 championships for 2021 after Donaueschingen, Germany pulled out.

Deadline for expressions of interest is Jan. 15 and allocation of the championship will be decided in February.
