TEMECULA, California, April 11, 2019–California’s Sarah Lockman and First Apple tightened their grip at the top of the Small Tour rankings for the Pan American Games with victory Thursday in the West Coast Dressage Festival CDI1* Prix St. Georges for the highest score for a USA partnership this year.

In only their second international competition, Sarah and nine-year-old KWPN stallion scored 74.853% that eclipsed the 74.382% posted in the debut performance three weeks ago. The March results in the St. Georges and Intermediate 1 for an overall average of 74.603 boosted Sarah to the top of the standings for the Dutta Corp. U.S. team for the Pan Ams scheduled for Lima, Peru at the end of July.

The score for Sarah, 30, of Murrieta and First Apple was the second highest CDI St. Georges mark in the world so far this year, eclipsed only by Canada’s Tina Irwin on Laurencio scoring 74.912% at Wellington, Florida a month ago, according to a review by dressage-news.com.

First Apple was acquired by sponsor Gerry Ibanez from Carolyn de Roo–Kooiman’s President Stables in the Netherlands last fall.

First Apple was competed as a seven-year-old by Dutch team rider Patrik van der Meer, including the World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo where they placed second in the preliminary and fourth in the final. In nine Small Tour starts in Europe over six months to mid-2018, Patrik and First Apple always placed in the top three, including three victories.

Sarah and First Apple worked with Patrik for a month before moving to Wellington for coaching with Scott Hassler who has gone to California for the two CDIs.

Three-time U.S. Olympian Günter Seidel on Beltano, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding, was second on 70.882%.

Jennifer Hoffmann of Ranch Santa Fe, California on Rondoro Noblesse placed third on 69.657% in only the second competition since returning from eight years based in Europe.
