HICKSTEAD, England, July 28, 2018–Super Nova II ridden by Spencer Wilton for Great Britain’s on the 2016 Olympic silver medal team was withdrawn from the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday, possibly ending chances of the pair being considered for the World Equestrian Games in six weeks.

The withdrawal was the second time the horse has been pulled from competition in the only two shows this year for the 15-year-old British-bred Hanoverian stallion. Super Nova was withdrawn from the Special at the Hartpury, England CDI3* last month, the first competition for the pair since November, 2017.

The reason for the withdrawal Saturday could not be immediately determined, a day after winning the Grand Prix.

In addition to the 2016 Olympics, Spencer and Super Nova cometed at the 2017 European Championships in more than four years at Big Tour.

Team contenders Charlotte Dujardin on Mount St. John Freestyle, Carl Hester on Hawtins Delicato, Gareth Hughes on Classic Briolinca and Emile Faurie on Dono di Maggio or Delatio were not competing here, the last CDI before the team is named for the Tryon world championships.

France’s Bertrand Liegard on Star Wars won the Special on a score of 70.340 per cent with the England-based Ulrike Molgaard of Denmark on Michigan second on 68.787 per cent and Gareth Hughes on KK Woodstock third on 68.766 per cent.
