BRISBANE, Australia, July 19, 2018–Just hours before Australia was to declare combinations for the World Equestrian Games, Alexis Hellyer on Bluefields Floreno posted a personal best score to capture the Brisbane CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday.
Alexis and the 13-year-old Australian-bred stallion scored 70.913 per cent, surpassing the previous best of 70.478 per cent logged a month ago.
The 29-year-old rider and Floreno who have never competed outside the East Coast of Australia are expected to be named to the squad to go to the world championships in Tryon, North Carolina beginning Sept. 11, 2018.
Sue Hearn and Remmington, the pair that were the center of controversy at the 2016 Olympics where they were found to have been disqualified for a drugs violation at the Rotterdam, Netherlands show that qualified them for the team, placed second on 69.196.
Sue and the 16-year-old gelding did not earn scores to qualify the pair for consideration for Tryon.
Shannan Goodwin and Aristede, another Australian-based duo on the short list for selection for Tryon, were third on 69.109 per cent.
