OTTAWA, Ontario, May 18, 2018–Megan Lane and Zodiac won the National Capital Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Friday for their second victory in the first year at Big Tour that puts the pair in contention for a spot on Canada’s World Equestrian Games team in less than four months.
Megan and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding scored 70.696 per cent in the pair’s first international competition in Canada.
Megan, who rode Caravella at the 2016 Olympics and the 2014 World Games, began competing Zodiac at Big Tour this year, with 10 starts at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida including a victory in a CDI3* Grand Prix at the end of March.
She placed fourth on Caravella, 17-year-old KWPN mare, on Friday with a score of 70.087 per cent.
Brittany Fraser on All In, the 13-year-old KWPN gelding that she began competing at Big Tour after their 2015 Pan American Games silver medal performance, placed second Friday on 70.652 per cent.
Jaimey Irwin on Donegal V was third on 70.543 per cent in only their second CDI Grand Prix performance.
The results of this show and three other CDIs in Canada are critical for combinations seeking one of the four places on Canada’s team for the WEG in Tryon, North Carolina in September. The deadline to earn qualifying scores is mid-August
This was the first show for the top combinations that include Megan on Caravella as well as Zodiac, Brittany on All In, Jill Irving on Degas and Belinda Trussell on Tattoo to acquire a score after May 1 that is a requirement to be considered for seletion.
