DEL MAR, California, April 27, 2018–Steffen Peters and Rosamunde won the World Cup Grand Prix Friday, the seventh straight victory for the pair seeking to be on the United States team at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September.

Steffen, a four-time Olympian for the USA and based nearby in San Diego, California and the 11-year-old Rhinelander mare scored 74.587 per cent in an error-free ride that Steffen described as “powerful and clean” with the passage “getting better and bigger.”

“Overall it is exactly the feeling that I would like to take to Europe to hopefully support the team in Rotterdam,” he said the pre-WEG European circuit for a group of American combinations that will include the premier events on the continent.

The string of victories began at this same event a year ago and before the horse was given a lengthy break following two years of intensive trans-Atlantic competition.

Sabine Schut-Kerry of Thousand Oaks, California and Sanceo that began Big Tour just this year and were on the U.S. Nations Cup gold medal team in Florida last month, placed second on 72.783 per cent.

Steffen rode Suppenkasper, also starting their partnership in January after the KWPN gelding was bought from German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg as an option for Steffen for the WEG and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, placed third on 72.696 per cent.

Steffen and Rosamunde and Sabine and Sanceo are among the seven combinations on the U.S. Elite squad while Steffen and Suppenkasper are ranked on the pre-Elite list.

The combinations are certain to be selected for the group of about eight American combinations to go to Europe to determine which four pairs plus a reserve will be chosen for the U.S. team for the WEG.
