TAUPO, New Zealand, April 18, 2018–Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten, the 2016 Olympic representative duo for New Zealand, won the CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday in the campaign for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September.
Julie and the 15-year-old Rhinelander gelding, the 2018 New Zealand Championship pair, scored 68.000 per cent for the victory, the fourth for the pair in seven CDI starts this year.
John Thompson and JHT Antonello, a top New Zealand prospect for the World Games, retired.
Debbie Barke on Lucrative SW was second on 64.957 per cent and Wendi Williamson on Don Amour MH was third on 64.174 per cent. Two scores of a minimum of 66 per cent are required to qualify for the WEG, the world championships held once every four years.
Julie, who will be 64 years old next month, and Vom Feinsten are the top ranked New Zealand pair at No. 88 in the world. In preparing for the 2016 Rio Olympics, they competed throughout western Europe, including the premier World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany.
