DORTMUND, Germany, Mar. 23, 2018–Germany’s two-time Olympic couple of Kristina Bröring-Sprehe and Desperados FRH made a triumphant comeback to top sport Friday with a victory in the Signal Iduna CDI4* Grand Prix following an absence of more than a year from the competition arena with injuries of the 17-year-old Hanoverian stallion.
The 31-year-old rider and the black stallion that began their international Grand Prix partnership almost seven years ago were awarded 79.739 per cent, with two of the five judges giving the pair marks above 80 per cent. All the judges placed the duo first.
Kristina and Desperados (De Niro x Wolkenstein II) became international stars when they were selected for Germany’s team for the 2012 Olympics, winning team silver, and followed with team gold and individual bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and team gold and individual bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The pair were on German medal teams at European Championships in 2013 and 2015, the last where their silver medal to Great Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin on Valegro in the Freestyle led to loud jeers and boos directed at the judges by a crowd that believed the positions should have been reversed.
Kristina and Desperados were ranked No. in the world for nine months in 2016.
Russia’s Inessa Merkulova on Mister X placed second on 75.217 per cent as they prepare for the World Cup Final in Paris next month.
Germany’s Fabienne Lütkemeier on Fabregaz DSP was third on 72.130 per cent.
