LAMPRECHTSHAUSEN, Austria, Aug. 31, 2017–Spain will be the first of six nations to start Friday in the second European Championships for Under-25 riders, created as a bridge between youth competitions and the senior ranks.

A total of 27 riders made up of the six teams of up to four combinations each with one drop score plus individuals from three other countries.

The teams are: Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and Austria. Individuals are from Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Seven of the world’s top 10 combinations are competing, including No. 1 Anne Meulendijks and MDH Avanti of the Netherlands.

However, Diana Porsche and Di Sandro OLD, the second highest ranked pair, had to pull out when the horse had to be taken to the veterinary clinic with undiagnosed symptoms leaving the home side Austrian team with three pairs.

Juan Matute, Jr., the Florida-based teenage star for Spain, decided to compete Quantico Ymas here after the pair swept the Lövsta Future Challenge International Under-25 that was staged alongside the European Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden last week. He had originally entered Don Diego Ymas here but Quantico was performing so well he opted to compete the horse here.
