ERMELO, Netherlands, Aug. 6, 2017–Don Martillo, a Hanoverian stallion, was ridden by Ann-Christin Wienkamp of Germany Sunday to become the five-year-old World Young Horse Champion.
The black stallion (Don Juan de Hus x Benetton Dream), that had topped the qualifying competition, was awarded a total of 9.74 points that included 10 for the walk and 9.7 for both the trot and the canter, 9.5 for submission and 9.8 for perspective.
Ferarri OLD, an Oldenburg stallion with Andreas Helgstrand of Denmark aboard won the silver medal with 9.2 points.
Hesselhoej Donkey Boy, a Danish Warmblood stallion, and Jan Møller Christensen of Denmark took the bronze on 9.1 points.
Sisters Act OLD vom Rosencarre and Dorothee Schneider of Germany and Casablanca ridden by Australia’s Simone Pearce tied for fourth on 9.0. The result for Simone, who works for Helgstrand Dressage in Denmark, is the highest placing ever for an Australian at the world championships.
