Dressage4Kids, launched by American Olympian Lendon Gray 18 years ago as a youth development program, has expanded to become a virtual year round series of clinics and events in at least 16 states, likely the most ambitious undertaking of its type in the world.
Hampton Green Farms in Wellington, Florida in winter and Fruitport, Michigan in June and Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival in Saugerties, New York in August are the anchor events in the privately funded program.
But the focus is staging clinics away from the dressage hot spots of Wellington and Southern California.
About 27 clinics and events are in the lineup of Dressage4Kids (D4K) events from as distant as Anchorage, Alaska to rural Florida on the schedule so far this year. The clinic lineup follows the Winter Intensive Training Program of three months at Kimberly van Kampen’s Hampton Green Farm in Wellington, hacking distance to the Global Dressage Festival.
Lendon competed for the United States at the 1980 alternate Games and 1988 Olympics as well as world championships and World Cup Final. She was also known for riding the pony-sized Seldom Seen to the American Grand Prix Championship.
She launched Dressage4Kids in New York in 1999, then started the Emerging Dressage Athlete Program that has now been renamed TEAM (Training, Education and Mentoring).\
