LANGLEY, British Columbia, June 10, 2016–Karen Pavicic and Don Daiquiri won the Thunderbird CDI3* Grand Prix Friday with a personal best score to move the World Games team pair up Canada’s Olympic rankings.
Karen and the 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding were awarded 71.120 per cent that surpassed their previous personal best Grand Prix result of 70.840 per cent posted in Florida last January.
The score boosted their four-result average to 70.465 and moved the pair to third from fourth on Canada’s Olympic rankings behind Belinda Trussell on Anton with a big lead and 0.058 behind Megan Lane and Caravella. Before this show, Karen and Don Daiquiri were behind Chris von Martels and Divertimento. All three combinations at the top of the standings were on Canada’s team at the World Games in Normandy in 2014.
The deadline is July 3 for scores to fill one of the two starting places for Canada at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro less than two months away.
Fellow Canadian Joni Lynn Peters on Travolta placed second on 68.200 per cent and Lauren Thornlow of the USA on Royal Konig third on 65.860 per cent.
