DONAUESCHINGEN, Germany, Sept. 15–Anabel Balkenhol and Dablino, in their first show since riding for Germany at the Olympics in London, won the CDI4* Grand Prix Saturday, the first victory for the German pair in three years of international competition and a personal best score.
Anabel and the 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding (De Niro x Wanda x Wanderbursch II) were awarded 78.191 per cent and first place by all five judges, two of whom scored the pair above 80 per cent.
Fellow Germans Isabell Werth and El Santo NRW were second on 74.830 per cent and Nadine Capellmann and Girasol were third on 73.915 per cent.
Anabel and Dablino competed as an individual combination in London and finished 19th overall.
Since Anabel began competing at CDI in 2009 on the horse owned by her father, Klaus Balkenhol, the United States team coach from 2000 to 2008, the pair rode on the German team at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010 as well as teams at the last three World Equestrian Festivals in Aachen, Germany.
This was the first win for the pair and surpassed the previous personal best Grand Prix score of 76.723 per cent attained in Hagen, Germany, in 2011.
