OLDENBURG, Germany, Nov. 13–Kristina Sprehe and Despeados won the Grand Prix Special Sunday to sweep the Oldenburg CDI4* and confirm the elevation of the German pair to the senior ranks in Europe.

Kristina, 25, and the 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding (De Niro x Wie Musik x Wolkenstein II) scored 73.467 per cent in the Special a day after capturing the Grand Prix with a personal best of 75.723 per cent. Holland’s Leida Collins-Strijk and On Top were second on 73.178 per cent and Sander Marijnissen on Moedwil third on 70.933 per cent, the same order of finish as the Grand Prix.

Oldenburg was only the third senior international competition for Kristina and Desperados, which they began at Verden, Germany, three months ago.

Kristina and Desperados have been active in Under-25 competitions, including the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany, and Rotterdam during the European Championships, a division created to help with the transition from young riders to the senior levels.

Kristina was a member of the gold medal team at the European Pony Championships in 2003, won team silver and gold and individual bronzes as a junior at the European Championships in 2003 and 2004, and in 2006 and 2007 was a member of the Young Rider teams that won gold and silver as well as individual silver and bronze medals.
