FRANKFURT, Germany, Dec. 16–German riders dominated the Prix St. Georges to kick off the Young Rider World Cup Thursday, with less than one percentage point separating the top two combinations in the annual championship.

Fabienne Lütkemeier on D’Agostino placed first with 74.474 per cent while team mate Sanneke Rothenberger on Deveraux OLD was second on 73.632 per cent. The Netherlands’ Danielle van Mierlo on BMC Ucento placed third with 70.474 per cent, the only three riders to score above 70 per cent.

Fourteen starters from 13 nations–Germany was the only country with two riders–traveled from around the world to compete at the only global championship of young dressage riders being held at this major competition, including a senior World Cup qualifier.

Of the riders from outside Europe, the USA’s Meagan Davis on Bentley of Stone Ridge, New York, was the highest placed in sixth with 63.368 per cent.

Meagan, 21, and the 17-year-old Danish warmblood are being coached by Lendon Gray.

This is Meagan’s first competition overseas, having qualified for the trip by having the highest average of their top two scores in Young Rider Freestyle tests in CDI-Y competitions during 2010.

Australia’s Megan Bryant and Donnabella placed 11th on 61.684 per cent, Canada’s Jaimie Holland on Fleurina scored 59.316 per cent for 12th place, Georgia Worth on Veritas of New Zealand were 13th with 57.368 per cent and Brazil’s Victoria Raskalla on Large Times placed 14th with 54.368 per cent.
