STOCKHOLM, Nov. 28–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival swept the Stockholm International Horse Show, easily winning the World Cup qualifier Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday in their first event since being disqualified from the World Equestrian Games two months ago and leading a Dutch sweep of the top three places.

A very happy Adelinde, in marked contrast to their exit from the Grand Prix arena in Kentucky with blood on the mouth of the 13-year-old gelding, clinched her third straight Stockholm International Horse Show title with a score of 83.850 per cent, identical to her 2009 result and the second highest indoor mark for the pair.

Nine-time World Cup champion Anky van Grunsven on Painted Black, which she was competing for the new owner, a Spanish junior rider, placed second on 81.1501 per cent with Edward Gal on Interfloor Next third on 75.0503 per cent.

Adelinde said she was especially happy with the freestyle as she had not practiced it since preparing for the WEG.

The mark for the top combination from The Netherlands who rode to music from the Nutcracker Suite was the highest so far for the 2010/2011 West European League World Cup competition after three of the 10 competitions leading to the Final in Leipzig, Germany at the end of April.

“It’s really good to be back!” Adelinde said after the ride. “Kentucky didn’t go the way I planned it but Parzival was in great shape then, there’s no question about that, and he’s back in great shape again now.”

She said she gave Parzival a break after Kentucky “and then I slowly built him up again with training.  This is our first competition since then and he was really calm and relaxed today. He was a happy athlete!”

She plans to take him to Olympia in London in December and she has the qualifiers in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in January and Gothenburg, Sweden in February.

“I’m hoping to get to the final in Leipzig–that’s my goal” she said.

With the win came her third automobile as part of her prize money at this. More than 70,000 spectators attended the three-day competition.

Anky said this ride was “one of my best Freestyles ever with Painted Black! We had one little mistake in the extended canter, but except that everything went just the way I wanted!”

Germany’s Isabell Werth is at the top of the WEL standings after victories in the first two competitions, one on her 2008 Olympic mount Satchmo and the other on her 2007 World Cup champion mount, Warum Nicht FRH.
