CAPPELN, Germany, Aug. 21–Victoria Max-Theurer on her European Championship stallion, the home-bred Augustin OLD, won the Grand Prix to qualify for the freestyle Saturday, while Isabell Werth and Satchmo finished a disappointing third as the top German faces a decision which of her top horses to take to the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky next month.

The 24-year-old two-time Olympian Victoria, in the inaugural CDI4* at the historic Gestüt Vorwerk that her mother, Austrian Olympic gold medalist Sissy, bought last year after being operated as one of the world’s leading studs by the Vorwerk family for 135 years, and the 10-year-old Augustin was placed first by all five judges for a score of 76.511 per cent. Spain’s Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz on Fuego XII was the unanimous choice for second on 73.574 per cent while Isabell and her 2008 Olympic team gold medal mount scored 72.213 per cent.

Australian Lyndal Oatley on Potifar was the only non-European combination and posted a score of 64.340 per cent that is enough to qualify for WEG and comes one week before her national selectors determine the Aussie team Kentucky.
