MECHELEN, Belgium, Dec. 28–Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival danced to their seasonal music to win the World Dressage Masters Freestyle Friday, receiving artistic scores as high as 97 per cent.
Adelinde and her coming 16-year-old KWPN gelding (Jazz x Fidora x Ulft) was awarded 88.575 per cent, within 0.8 per cent of the personal best for the pair, for their freestyle with a Nutcracker Suite theme. Artistic scores included 97 per cent from Belgian judge Freddy Leyman and 95 per cent from Raphaël Saleh of France.
The Dutch rider, who will be seeking her third straight World Cup title in April, said she feels that breaching the 90 per cent level is within reach.
Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW, who placed first in the Grand Prix Thursday, were the runnerup with 85.875 per cent after the start of the music for their new freestyle sputtered.
Fellow German Nadine Capellmann and Elvis VA in third on 76.375 per cent. The results for Helen and Damon Hill also included an artistic score of 97 per cent from the French judge.
Dressage at Mecheln was the first indoor event for the World Dressage Masters and was added to the program after losing the World Cup qualifier in a realignment of the winter indoor series.
Mario Van Orshaegen of Belgium and Wilco V won the Grand Prix Special on 66.844 per cent with Sweden’s Mattias Jansson and Brisbane second on 65.489 per cent, Simon Missiaen also of Belgium on Vradin third on 63.844 per cent and Finland’s Emma Kanerva and Sini Spirit fourth on 63.556 per cent. There were only four starting combinations in the class.
