The United States had more international dressage riders and shows than any other nation last year but Germany had the greatest number of dressage horses, according to the annual report of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).
The number of FEI events was 4,708, with jumping taking the lion’s share with 1,726, endurance second with 907, dressage third with 783 and eventing, along with dressage and jumping making up the Olympic disciplines, not far behind with 745. The total for driving, vaulting, reining and para was 547.
Of the 783 dressage events in 48 countries, the U.S. had the most with 132 followed by France with 69, Russia 55, Germany 42, Portugal 38, Spain 33, Australia 29, Canada and Netherlands 28 each, Austria 27, Ukraine 26, Denmark 25, Poland 24, Italy 23 and Great Britain 20.
The number of American dressage athletes at 806 was also the highest among the total of 4,310 in 89 countries.
Germany was second with 461, Russia third with 244, Netherlands 218, Australia 209, Canada 183, Spain 174, Sweden 164, Great Britain 156, France 154, Denmark 140, Belgium 122 and Italy 105.
Germany led with 891 dressage horses out of a total of 5,479.
The United States was second with 761, followed by Netherlands with 352, Russia 315, Spain 236, Great Britain 230, Australia 210, France and Sweden each with 209, Canada 194, Denmark 186, Belgium 161 and Austria 149.
