ERMELO, Netherlands, Aug. 3, 2018–There was much relief in the breeding world as the popular KWPN  stallion, Asgard’s Ibiza, redeemed himself to win the World Breeding Dressage Championships five-year-old small final Friday. The top three placed horses all get to participate in the real final Saturday.

All three horses had huge improvements in their scores Friday. I do not believe that it is a coincidence that all three horses were also in the first five to go Thursday. I will definitely stand by my comments on Thursday’s judging.

Asgard’s Ibiza (Desperado x Jazz) ridden by Juliane Brunkhorst for Germany was more relaxed Friday and able to show off the walk he is known for (8.5) and received a much higher submission score (8.7) than a day earlier. His overall score was 8.96, Thursday’s score was 8.12.

In second place was the Danish mare, Straight Horse Ascenzione (Blue Hors Zack x Blue Hors Don Schufro), ridden by Victoria E. Vallentin for Denmark. They received an overall score of 8.90. Thursday she received just 8.10.

In third place was the Danish-bred stallion, Lindaballe’s Just Perfect (Johnson x de Niro). He was ridden for Australia by Simone Pearce for an overall score of 8.84, a great improvement on Thursday’s 8.30.

The small finals are a fine line for these young horses.

They are definitely more relaxed and it is not held in the main arena. Some of them are simply tired and just fell completely flat, scoring lower than the first day. The challenge for the top three is to have them fit and energetic coming out to work for a third day in a row.
