LEUDELANGE, Luxemboureg, July 7, 2018–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper captured the CDI4* Grand Prix Saturday a day after victory on Rosamunde for the American Olympic rider.

Steffen and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding that he began competing at CDI in January was awarded 74.239 per cent and the unanimous choice of the five judges for the top spot.

Denmark’s Victoria E. Vallentin on Ludwig der Sonnenkoenig was second on 70.696 per cent.

Olivia LaGoy-Weltz also of the United States on Lonoir placed third on 70.565 per cent.

“A great Grand Prix  test for Mopsi,” said Steffen after the ride. “Clearly more relaxed than in Rotterdam.

“Mopsi needs a lot of exposure to get used to different atmospheres. This was our main intention for competing in Europe with  him. This is working out nicely so far. I hope Mopsi will stay this relaxed in the 4-star Grand Prix in Aachen.”

Olivia of Haymarket, Virginia along with Steffen, of San Diego, California and Ashley Holzer of New York City are competing here and among a group of Americans in Europe seeking selection for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in two months. This is the second observation event with the World Equestrian Festival CDIO5* Nations Cup and CDI4* in Aachen, Germany in two weeks as the deciding competition.

Suppenkasper was bought late last year from German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg by Four Winds Farm of Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang as an Olympic and championship prospect in the lineup of top mounts that they have acquired for Steffen that included Ravel, Legolas and Rosamunde.

Steffen and Suppenkasper, with the barn name “Mopsi,” stayed in Caliornia to show on the new California winter circuit, West Coast Dressage Festival. The pair logged seven victories in eight starts.

He brough the horse to Europe along with Rosamunde to get him more experience and exposure, showing at Rotterdam, Netherlands last month where they placed third in the Grand Prix.
