MOSCOW, Sept. 24, 2017–Inessa Merkulova on Mister X appeared set earn an invitation to the pair’s fifth World Cup Final with a Grand Prix Freestyle victory Sunday while Russian team mate Stanislav Cherednichenko on Vosk boosted the chances of making his debut with a runnerup placing.

Inessa and the 13-year-old Russian-bred Trakehner scored 80.700 per cent for the win that gave the rider another 20 points to give her a total of 75 and widen the gap over Hanna Karasiova of Belarus in campaigning for one of the two places reserved for Central Europe at the final in Paris next April.

Inessa and Mister X have competed at the last four annual championships as well as the 2016 Olympics and the 2014 World Games.

The score of 72.850 per cent for second place for Stanislav and Vosk boosted their World Cup points total to 60 and second place behind Inessa in the eighth of 11 qualifiers in the Central European League.

Stanislav took over the ride on the 12-year-old Russian-bred Hanoverian this year. The 26-year-old rider and Vosk were on the Russian team at the European Championships last month, his first championship.

Elizaveta Troshenkova on Rubinio Royal was third on 71.250 per cent.

The next World Cup event in the league is Tallinn, Estonia Oct. 6-8.
