Australian dressage judge Susan Hoevenaars made it known Monday she has been diagnosed with “early stage” breast cancer and will go into the hospital at the end of the week for further treatment.

The 67-year-old FEI 5* dressage judge learned of the diagnosis on the first day of the World Cup event in Werribee, Australia last week.

“As expected,” said Deborah MacNicol, an organizer, “she felt she should not be judging as her concentration could well be affected.

“She is continuing with tests and will go into hospital at the end of the week for further treatment.

“As usual, Susie is positive and confident there will be a good outcome.”

In 2011, she became one of only two 5* judges within the Pacific region and judges around the world, including world and continental championships.
