COMPIÈGNE, France, May 22, 2016–The United States was declared the winner of the CDIO5* Nations based on the results of the Grand Prix after heavy rain forced cancellation of the Grand Prix Special and Freestyle segments on Sunday.

The United States also went to the top of the Nations Cup standings after three of the six events in the trans-Alantic series.

For the Americans, this was the first in European selection events to choose the Dutta Corp team for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August. Kasey Perry-Glass of Wellington, Florida and Dublet were the highest placed team combination with Laura Graves of Plymouth, Florida on Verdades second, Allison Brock also of Wellington on Rosevelt third and Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida fourth. Arlene “Tuny” Page of Wellington on Woodstock and Shelly on Danilo competed in the companion CDI3*.

“To say that I was thrilled with our U.S. riders and horses this week in Compiègne would be an understatement,” said U.S. Chef d’Equipe Robert Dover. “From Tuny Page’s third place in the CDI3* Grand Prix Special, our wonderful Young Riders who showed great potential, as well as grace when things did not always go their way, to the spectacular win of our Nation’s Cup Team, I can only state my tremendous pride in them.”

Californians Steffen Peters of San Diego with Legolas and Rosamunde and Günter Seidel of Cardiff on Zero Gravity will join the American squad at their Belgium base this week.

Some U.S. combinations will compete at Roosendaal, Netherlands June 1-5 and the CDIO5* in Rotterdam June 22-26 after which the team of four riders and horses will be announced.

Changes in the format, the organizers said in a statement, “have to be made due to the bad weather circumstances, with the approval of the FEI, the Organizing Committee, the President of the Grand Jury, the Foreign Judge, the President of the Appeal Committee, and the Chefs d’Equipe.”

The standings after the Grand Prix that will stand as the official result are: 1. USA 226.800 2. Sweden 215.040 3. France 213.660 4. Germany 208.500 5. Belgium 208.120 6. Great Britain 207.520 7. Netherlands 206.980 8. Switzerland 206.380.

The Special was canceled altogether and prize money allocated for that competition was added to the Grand Prix purse. The Freestyle went on but as a stand-alone competition and only three combinations participated.
