PERL-BORG, Germany, Sept. 11, 2015–Isabell Werth rode Emilio to victory Friday in the international Grand Prix debut of the nine-year-old Westfalen gelding and the second win in two days at the CDI4* Peterhof Dressur Gala for the five-time German Olympian.
Isabell and Emilio (Ehrenpreis x Cacir) scored 75.440 per cent in the Grand Prix to qualify for the Special. The only other international competition for the duo was a Small Tour event almost a year ago.
Isabell, who won the Grand Prix for the Freestyle on Don Johnson FRH on Thursday, led a sweep of the top three places by German championship riders Friday.
Fabienne Lütkemeier and D’Agostino FRH placed second on 74.580 per cent. The pair were on the German team with Isabell at the World Games last summer.
Hubertus Schmidt on Imperio was third on 73.260 per cent.
Isabell and Emilio were awarded first place by thee of the five judges with a high score of 79.600 per cent and a third placing by another judge with a score of 71.400 per cent.
Emilio has been with Isabell more than four years but, she explained, “he is a horse that took a long time to gain confidence to be ridden. It was not an easy road.”
She said that as a youngster the horse panicked when anyone attempted to ride him.
The pair performed their first Grand Prix at a national show recently before attempting CDI Big Tour.
“I am really happy about it because I believe in this wonderful horse,” she said. “I think we have grown in recent years quite well together and I know there is still very much in him. While there are situations that can bring her briefly unplugged, I now also feel that he trusts me as his rider.”
