SAUMUR, France, May 4, 2014–Charlotte Dujardin rode Uthopia, the horse she and Carl Hester have traded as a mount for the past year, won the Saumur CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday while Carl was runnerup on Nip Tuck in their international debut.

Charlotte and the 13-year-old KWPN stallion (Metall x Inspekteur) scored 79.225 per cent, well below her previous best of 82.625 per cent posted at Hartpury, England last year and compared with the horse’s best ever result of 84.179 per cent with Carl aboard at the 2011 European Championships. He then took the took the horse to the London Olympics in 2012 to win team gold.

Carl and the 10-year-old Nip Tuck, a KWPN gelding by Don Ruto, scored 74.450 per cent for second place with Denmark’s Agnete Kirk Thinggaard on Jojo AZ in third with 72.100 per cent.

Carl began riding Uthopia at Grand Prix in 2010, then Charlotte took over the ride in from March to July last year before Carl resumed riding the horse through to the European Championships where Great Britain won the bronze medal. This was the second show for Charlotte and Uthopia this year.
