WARENDORF, Germany, Sept. 7–Lord Carnaby ridden by Beatrice Buchwald on Saturday became the 6-year-old German champion with scores of 9 or better in every category while Sean Connery 5 with Sweden’s Therese Nilshagen aboard was reserve champion.
Lord Carnaby, an elegant chestnut Rhinelander stallion (Lord Loxley x Rocket Star) was awarded a total of 9.2, again showing off his walk for 9.5, the gait that made the difference in taking the qualifier on Thursday. The other scores were 9 for trot, canter and rideability and 9.5 for general impression.
Christoph Hess, the official commentator, gushed: “It was a feast for the eyes, an idea of how you wish to participate.”
The Hanoverian stallion Sean Connery (Sir Donnerall I x Rotspon) received 9.5 for the canter in their total of 8.6.
The bronze medal went to the Oldenburg Sir Diamond (Sir Donnerhall I- x Rohdiament)Diamond with a score of 8.5.
Doubleyou W (Don Ramantic x Rohdiamant) was piloted by Laura Stigler to tie with Silver Black OLD for fourth place on a score of 8.4, the same as their qualifying result.
Laura is the younger sister of Silva Martin, who competes as an American based out ofUnionville, Pennsylvania with her U.S. eventing team husband, Boyd Msrtin.
The six-year-old division was dominated by Hanoverian and Oldenburg horses–19 of the 37 entries were Hanoverians and 12 were Oldenburgs. Sandro Hit had seven horses in the final.
