The countodwn from 100 days to the Olympic Games in London was marked Wednesday by celebrations in cities around the world, and an innovative American Raise the Flag campaign.

These Olympics are in London for the third time and mark the centenary of equestrian sports on the program.

From July 27 to August 12, London will host 10,500 athletes representing 204 nations for the 27th Summer Olympic Games. More than nine million tickets have already been sold to spectators around the world.

All 41 National Olympic Committees that qualified for equestrian by the March 1 deadline have confirmed their participation. Two hundred riders and horses will be competing in Jumping, Dressage and Eventing at Greenwich Park.

The next major date in the calendar is June 17, which marks the end of the qualification period for athletes to achieve the required minimum eligibility standards. Definite entries for all three disciplines will be announced July 9.

One of the most innovative campaigns was announced by the U.S. Olympic Committee Wednesday.

Individual contributions of $12 for a stitch on the American flag that the U.S. Olympic team will accompany to London. Supporters can purchase a single stitch by visiting http://www.teamusa.org/ through July 12.
