WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Mar 21–Courtney King-Dye was reported to have had a “terrific day” Saturday attempting to smile for the first time when visited by Olympic team mate Steffen Peters.

Steffen was in Wellington for a riding clinic.

Lendon Gray, her longtime coach who visits Courtney for six hours each night, reported:

“She’s had a terrific day. Steffen Peters came to visit and she tried her first smile.

“She is following simple instructions and was able to point out her family members in a photo. I brought in a rein and with some coaxing she was able to follow with her left hand the motions I created for walk, trot, and canter.”

Courtney fractured her skull when a horse she was riding slipped earlier this month.
