WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, Mar. 15–Courtney King-Dye is off the ventilator and breathing on her own but is still in a coma 12 days after her skull was fractured in a horse accident.

In an update Sunday, her husband, Jason, Dye, reported: “As of 2:20 pm this afternoon Courtney entered day 12 of her coma. She has made more progress with her breathing and has been off the ventilator and breathing on her own for over 36 hours.

“Unfortunately there is not a lot more to report from a medical standpoint, but I can tell you that I get a deep sense when I am with her that she is fighting to come back, and I know when Courtney sets a goal… look out!”

He asked for wellwishers to continue sending messages of support that are being read to Courtney. The address is: comebackcourt@gmail.com

Jason reported earlier on “small and positive step forward” when the hospital staff were able to perform “windsprints” where they took Courtney off the ventilator for set time periods to let her breathe on her own.

“She performed great as we all expect she would,” he said. “They will continue this process until she can comfortably breathe on her own.

“It made me happy knowing Courtney would want to be getting some exercise.”

Meantime, Carol Cohen of Wellington, Florida who has been helping raise money to help pay Courtney’s medical bills, said that more than $17,000 has been donated so far. Any money left over from medical treatment will be donated to a charity of Courtney’s choosing, she said.
